Solid Billing Ready For 2011 Summer Cup Test

December 21st, 2011

Solid Billing will is having a freshen up ahead of his run in the 2011 Summer Cup on Monday December 26, 2011, at Rosehill Racecourse.

The seven-year-old gelding was due to run in both the Christmas Cup and the Villiers Stakes earlier this month, however, trainer Craig Richie decided to hold out for the Summer Cup 2011.

“I suspected the track at Warwick Farm (for the Villiers Stakes) was going to be too firm and it turned out that way when it got to a good three,” Ritchie said.

“I thought chasing speed horses over 1600 metres on that track would take too much out of him and flatten him.”

Richie is confident Solid Billing will suit the distance of the 2011 Summer Cup.

“He’s been trained for the 2400 metres and is ready for it,” he said.

“Jay Ford will ride and he was very pleased with the gallop at Canterbury.

“He thought his hitout was nice and his recovery was terrific.”

Solid Billing worked well at Warwick Farm when performing trackwork early this morning.

“I was very happy with him,” he said.

“His work this morning was terrific.

“That will be his only gallop before the Cup.”

Solid Billing has won seven of his 43 race starts and has earned more than $225,000 during his career.
